Martha Hill

Martha Hill, age 81, of Weymouth, passed away on October 27, 2023.

Martha was born in New Haven CT, the second of six siblings, who grew up in Vermont. She was part of a large family, and could hold her own in lively conversations around the crowded dinner table. Martha attended Allegheny College, and left to become a homemaker when her daughter was born. Her first marriage ended in divorce, leaving her a single mother with two young children. Martha went into the moving industry and became one of the first women in the field to become a Certified Moving Consultant.

Years later, Martha met and married Richard Sackett, the first great love of her life. After his death, she met and married her second great love, Nicholas White. She and Nick shared many wonderful years until his death in 2022.    

Martha could be extraordinarily endearing and infuriating, occasionally both at the same time.  That reflected her brave lifelong battle with bipolar disorder. But she will be remembered most for her enthusiasm and interest in people. She loved the Lord, her church family and volunteering in the community. Martha could always be counted on for friendly words, lively conversation and timely greeting cards. Those cards kept up connections with a family that had spread around the country.

Martha is survived by her children, Judith Whalen and Matthew Hill, her five grandchildren, Daniel and Patrick Whalen, Bridget Fedoruk, Zachary Hill, and Karleen Hill, and her great grandson Whalen Fedoruk. She will be missed by her siblings, William Edwards, Katrina Pelkey, Susan Edwards, Sarah Canzoneri, and Stephen Edwards, as well as by spouses of her siblings and her nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Martha’s friend and caregiver Lana Ruel, and to her friends at the South Weymouth Church of the Nazarene and to her many friends at Lutheran Church of the Savior in Bedford, MA.

The family will be gathering privately to calibrate Martha’s life.
