Martha J. Hook

Martha Jane Hook, 70, of Pin Oak, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center.

Martha was a woman whose warmth and humor could light up any room. She had a quick wit, a playful spirit, and a gift for making others laugh, often when they needed it most. Deeply devoted to her family, she spent her life caring for those she loved and was a constant source of comfort and joy. Whether through a kind word, a shared joke, or simply her steady presence, Martha made those around her feel supported and truly loved.

Born on April 29, 1955, she was the daughter of the late William R. "Bill" Hook and Betty P. Hendrick Hook. Martha loved a good cup of coffee at any time of day, watching hummingbirds, admired flowers, and found joy in music. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family and took great pride in bringing smiles to their faces.

She is survived by her son, Shannon Shambaugh (Kristina) of Augusta, West Virginia; two daughters, Marlena Ryan (Jon) of Gore, Virginia, and Samantha Shambaugh of Paw Paw, West Virginia; two brothers, David Hook of Paw Paw, West Virginia, and Tom Hook (Linda) of Augusta, West Virginia; and four sisters, Wilma Abrell, Ruth Saulnier (Paul), Millie Kemp all of Paw Paw, West Virginia, and Evelyn Hook (Rick) of Altoona, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, with another expected soon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gary W. "Chippy" Shambaugh II; and three sisters, Barbara Largent, Joann M. Solomon, and Pearl M. Wilson.

Family and friends will be received at Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Woodrow Cemetery near Paw Paw, West Virginia, with Pastor David Bradfield officiating.
