Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Martha Louise Jack Murray passed away with her family at her side Saturday, November 15, 2025 in Salt Lake City, UT.
She was born November 9, 1931, in Glendale, West Virginia to Clifford and Irene Jack. Martha was proud to be from West Virginia and felt that John Denver wrote “Take Me Home Country Road” just for her. As a teenager she moved to Columbus, Ohio to live with her Uncle L.P. and Aunt Gay where she graduated from high school. Following high school, she studied office administration, which in those days included shorthand and typing. These skills led to her working in the Governor’s Office. Columbus is where she met the love of her life, Dallas Murray, while he was attending The Ohio State University. Martha was a proud Buckeye fan! Martha and Dallas were married October 28, 1955. He died January 22, 2022.
Martha’s hobbies and interests were closely connected to her younger years in West Virginia. She loved shopping for antiques and decorating her home in the style of her youth. She also had a love of trains as her father was a conductor for the B. & O. Railroad, the oldest railroad in the country. Some of the fondest memories of her youth were riding the train with her daddy. She had a great affinity for books and reading. Her love of books was a perfect match for her career as the librarian at Myton Elementary School. Martha was always involved with the Myton Ward where she enjoyed supporting the Young Women program and later, she became the Ward Librarian, a position she happily held for years. Many of her closest friends were women she met through church.
Martha worked hard to help support her family. She was always there to drive her children to their sports and activities, type a school report, take them back to school shopping, decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, and preparing nightly dinners. She was always game to go on a road trip with Dallas, whether it was a trip to Salt Lake City to visit grandkids, attend a livestock sale or visit a National Park with friends. These were some of her favorite memories of her later years.
Martha spent her final years “living in the city” as she always considered herself a city girl. A special thank you to the team in Legacy Village’s Memory Care unit for the love and care they provided, we are so grateful!
She is survived by her children Tami (Greg) Davidson, Cliff (Cathy) Murray, Bill (Kari) Murray, and Jeff (Erin) Murray, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dallas Murray.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Myton Chapel. A viewing will be held that morning from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park.
