Louisville Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home WestIt is with deep love and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Martha Jane Powell on September 6, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 88.
Born on July 6, 1937, in Louisville to Albert and Henrietta Jackey, Martha was a true example of warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. A lifelong resident of Valley Station, she built a life centered on family, friendship, and community—values that shaped everything she did.
Martha was a sweet, wonderful woman whose generous spirit touched everyone who knew her. Her greatest joy came from being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sundays were spent in her home, often filled with the warmth and laughter of big family dinners. She loved nothing more than having her family gathered around her, sharing a meal and making memories. She also enjoyed getting lost in the pages of a good book and the fun of a competitive card game.
In the last 2½ years of her life, Martha lived in memory care, where she continued to shine. Her gentle nature and kind smile touched the lives of her caregivers and fellow residents, who grew to love her deeply and were blessed by her presence.
Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth E. Powell; parents, Albert R. Jackey and Henrietta Heeke Jackey; her son, John Powell; and her brother, Bill Jackey.
Left to cherish her memory, Martha is survived by her children, David Powell (Dottie), Theresa Powell, PhD (Thomas Jansson, MD, PhD), and Brenda Powell; daughter-in-law, Lanita Beavers-Powell; five granddaughters, Cori Renn (Tristan), Taylor Case (Bryan), Megan Windle (Matt), Jorden Claycomb (Hayden), and Eden Humphrey; six great-grandchildren, Zoe, Sola, Elijah John, Mackenzie, Jackson, and Hazel; her brother, Eugene Jackey; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends.
Martha’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and connection. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the stories, smiles, and traditions she leaves behind.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, and from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. A funeral service will be held for Martha at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral services at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
