She was a life-long resident of Dover-Foxcroft and after graduating from Foxcroft Academy and Farmington State Normal School, she returned home to teach. Her first school was at Bear Hill where she traveled by horseback eight miles each day. She continued teaching in local schools retiring in 1983 to support her ailing husband and to enjoy her small grandchildren.
Martha's interest in young people extended beyond the classroom, volunteering with youth groups whenever needed, including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and teaching Sunday School. Retirement years found her at the YMCA, walking on wooded trails, working in community flower gardens or in her own yard on the Guilford Road. She was a member of the Piscataquis Retired Educators Association, member and past president of GFWC Miosac Club, and an Honorary Trustee of Foxcroft Academy.
At the age of 98, she was presented with the Boston Post Cane naming her the oldest citizen of Dover-Foxcroft. Following this event she was relatively active and independent, relishing the love and support of family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bart, she was predeceased by sister, Eleanor Dean, and brothers, Edwin and Robert. She is survived by a son, Harry Michael Rollins of Milo; a daughter, Nancy and her husband, Kelly Jordan, of Sangerville; grandson, Andy Jordan and his wife, Nicoleta,of Ashland, MA; granddaughter, Kimberly and her husband, Nathan Wyman, of Dexter; great-grandson, Luke Oliver Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.
