Martha "Marty" Jean Sabin, age 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 23,2025, in
Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Marty was born June 8th, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, to Hamor and Jean Pletch. As a young girl, she remembered taking the long trip to Canada to visit relatives, with her dad driving the old car on dirt roads most of the way! She attended Hirsch High School and graduated in 1955. Her busy social life was filled with various school activities, clubs, dances, and many good friends. After attending the University of Illinois, she enjoyed working for the Leo Burnett advertising agency in downtown Chicago. While vacationing in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, she met a very handsome gentleman on the beach, who would soon become her husband. Marty and Allen Sabin were united in marriage on July 9th, 1960, in a beautiful chapel in Chicago. "Marty and Al" were blessed with 3 children: daughter Laurie in 1961, son Brian in 1963, and daughter Emily in 1975. Mom and dad built their first home "in the country" outside of Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1968. Marty took pride in her role as wife and mother, providing a strong foundation of love and positivity for her family. She was a constant and reassuring presence, providing needed encouragement to her kids through the years. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, cross-stitch, gardening, bowling, and selling Avon. She was a kind and caring friend and neighbor. During early retirement, Marty and Al moved to Ephraim, Wisconsin. Their lovely home provided over 20 years of enjoyment and wonderful memories for the entire family. They were both fond of the nature of Door County, and spent many hours outside on their deck, watching birds and wildlife. Marty's grandkids will always remember "Grandma Sabin's" hospitality, happy spirit, and warm smile. After Al's death in 2016, Marty remained in Ephraim until 2021, when she moved to Lancaster, Wisconsin to be near family. Her last years were spent welcoming great grandchildren, cheering on her Brewers, and playing Scrabble with anyone willing. She took great delight in visiting with family and friends alike. Marty is survived by her three children, Laurie Klar, Brian (Sue) Sabin, and Emily Sabin; six grandchildren, Cortney (Robbie) Zinda, Chad (Brittany) Sabin, Adrianna (Lydia) Stindt, Ethan Klar, Eliora Klar, Benaiah Klar; six great grandchildren, sister Helen Campbell, and niece Ashley Jungwirth. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew, and husband. Mom, you were like sunshine, warming our lives whenever we spoke with you. You will never be forgotten, always close in loving memory. We are thankful for all the years we had with you. The family of Marty Sabin would like to give special thanks to all who provided caring support during the last months of her life: friends at Lancaster Senior Village, staff at Bluff Haven Assisted Living, Prairie Maison Skilled Nursing, and St. Croix Hospice.
A private family ceremony will take place at a later date. Interment will be at Ephraim Moravian Cemetery.
