Martha Susan Staton, lovingly known as Susan, passed away suddenly on December 3, 2023, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Susan was a remarkable individual whose presence radiated warmth and kindness. She will forever be remembered for her vibrant personality and her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community.

Susan was born on May 21, 1983, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. The daughter of Bobby and Melinda Maze Staton. From an early age, she showcased a natural talent for connecting with others and never met a stranger. With a heart full of compassion and empathy, Susan went out of her way to make everyone feel welcome and valued.

Her educational journey led her to Morehead University, where she earned a Bachelor of Business & Marketing degree as well as a paralegal certificate.

Susan was the proud owner/operator of the Slate Creek Farm Market in Owingsville. As a dedicated businesswoman, she poured her heart and soul into creating a thriving local establishment where community members could gather and enjoy the finest produce. Additionally, Susan worked part-time at H & R Block in Stanton, Kentucky, showcasing her commitment to serving others.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Susan had an adventurous spirit that beckoned her outdoors. She found solace in tending to her animals and livestock while embracing the serenity of nature. Susan also enjoyed traveling and purchasing produce in addition to growing her own. And through it all, Susan's selfless nature constantly urged her to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed support.

Susan was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arthur and Christine Maze and paternal grandfather, Howard Staton. 

Susan is survived by her beloved parents, Bobby and Melinda Maze Staton of Owingsville, her cherished sister Karen Lynette Staton (Todd), and her paternal grandmother, Marie Staton, her uncle, Micky Staton (Pashia), her aunts Brenda Coyle (Rogie), Brenda Sorrell Maze all of Owingsville and Marilyn Swartz (Carroll) of Louisville, Kentucky. Countless other family members and friends join in grieving the loss of this exceptional woman.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville, Kentucky. Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during this heartfelt gathering.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Polksville Church of God with Rev. Lowell Rice and Pastors Jim Brandenburg and Ralph White officiating. Following the service, Susan will be laid to rest in Polksville Cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to Polksville Cemetery at 211 Vance Road, Salt Lick, Kentucky 40371. 

Pallbearers include, Brandon Coyle, Robbie Coyle, Michael Staton, John Maze, Joe Maze and Champ Maze. 

Honorary pallbearers include Micky Staton, Rogie Coyle, Carroll Swartz. 

Although words cannot fully capture the immeasurable loss we feel at Susan's untimely departure from this world, let us remember her infectious smile and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. While our hearts ache with grief, let us find solace in the cherished memories we shared with Susan. May her soul find eternal peace, knowing that her light will forever illuminate the lives of those she touched.
