Martha Mayjel Wade, 89, of Jacks Creek, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on September 30th, 2023.
She was born on May 6th, 1934, in Brownsville, TN, the first-born daughter of the late Louis Kermit and Martha Ellen Taylor Hughes.
Mayjel married Clinton Wade on December 21st,1953 in Corinth, MS. After living for a time in
Chicago, they built a life in Chester County.
She was a loving and caring wife and mother who enjoyed cooking for her family as well as
having her family around her home. She was an adoring Mamaw to 14 grandchildren, 26
great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren as well as many others that claimed her as “Mamaw Wade”.
Mayjel, affectionately known as, “Sis. Wade” received her Doctorate of Education from Arkansas State and devoted her life to teaching and educating children at Jacks Creek Apostolic School, where she faithfully attended Jacks Creek Apostolic Church for 50+ years.
Mayjel was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Darlene Daniel, daughter and son-in-law, Diane and David Matthews, and grandchildren Clinton A. “Little Clint” Jackson, Phillip Jackson, Bradley Daniel, and Martha Ellen Daniel.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Clinton, three children: Linda Jackson (DeWayne) of Jacks Creek, Denise Daniel (Mark), both of Henderson, and Mark Wade (Jill) of Jackson, four siblings; Bobby Hughes (Betty) of Trenton, Tina Gray of Alamo, Tilda Lyons (Bill) of Florence, AL, and David Hughes (Cathy) of Deanburg and an abundance of other family members.
Funeral Services will be at 2pm, Wednesday, October 4th, at Jacks Creek Apostolic Church with Bro. Brent Daniel and Dr. John Scheel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors East Main Chapel from 5pm until 8pm Tuesday, October 3rd and again Wednesday, October 4th at the church beginning at 12 noon.
