Martin J Borelli, 97, of Cheesequake Village Matawan, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13th, at his home 2 weeks prior to his 98 th birthday. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Dolores (Galvin). Martin was born in Hoboken, NJ on July 28, 1927, the son of the late Dorothy (O'Brien) and Joseph Borelli. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence RCC in Laurence Harbor. Martin served in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was a resident of Jersey City for 40 years before moving to Matawan. Martin graduated from St. Peter's College, Jersey City in 1951. He was the owner/operator of three dry cleaning stores in Hoboken for 20 years, following this he worked 20 years for the US Postal Service in Kearny, NJ. Martin was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years, and was a Past Grand Knight. Additionally, he attained the highest level of "Fourth Degree" within the organization. Martin is predeceased by his daughter Mary Borelli, daughter in law Mary Lou Borelli, sister Dorothy Borelli and his grandson Matthew Nierstedt, who welcomed his grandpa into heaven with open arms. He leaves behind his loving children Martin Jr., Patricia and her husband Charles Nierstedt, Joseph, John, Margaret (Peg), and Michael Borelli. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren Jaclyn Fitzgerald, Lauren Ventola (Nick), Robyn Nierstedt and his loving great grandchildren Sienna Marie and Thomas Matthew Ventola. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation for Martin will be held Wednesday 3:30-7:30PM at Day Funeral Home and again the next morning at 10am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday 11am at St. Lawrence RCC with entombment following at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Tunnel of Towers Foundation or a charity of your choice in Martin's name.
