Martin left this world after a short and courageous battle with leukemia on December 20, 2023, surrounded by his family. Martin was the son of George Alfred Harry Evans and Gladys Ada Gent and was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  His family emigrated to the United States and settled in Utah upon the death of his father. He spent his childhood in the Brigham City area and later in Salt Lake City. He attended Granite High School. When he was a Junior, he met Jeanette Bangerter and they dated throughout their high school years.  When his older brother David was drafted into the US Army, Martin enlisted so that they could go in together under the buddy system.  He served in the Vietnam War honorably for 19 months.  Martin and Jeanette were married on January 30, 1971, after his service had ended and they made their home in Bountiful.  Throughout the years they welcomed four children into their home- three daughters and one son-Tauna, Tami, Joe & Tina.  On January 30th of 1997 Martin was sealed to his sweetheart along with his four children at the Bountiful temple. His family was his greatest joy.

Martin worked at JC Bangerter's with his beloved father-in-law for many years and learned that he loved to be behind the wheel of a big truck.  While driving the big truck was part of his DNA and he continued driving truck part-time until the time of his death, Martin's lifetime career was a Program Manager at Hill Air Force Base.  He made many treasured friends over a long career and retired in 2012.  This same year he began serving with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir together with Jeanette as stage crew and as their truck driver for choir tours.  They loved their service and time there and made many dear friends. Martin just retired from the stage crew in July of 2023.  In May of 2023 he also had the privilege of being on the Honor Flight alongside his older brother David and other veterans where they toured US historical sites in Washington DC and returned home to a hero's welcome on his birthday.

Dad was such a fun, vibrant and playful jokester who had a love for the outdoors, hunting, camping, and golfing.  He loved most sports but especially basketball. He loved to travel with his family. His favorite places to travel with his family were Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and the "Gravel Pit" up in the Uintah's. To him, family was everything and he was so proud of all his kids and grandkids.

Martin is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Jeanette, his children Tauna (Brad) Hess, Tamara (Scott) Smalley, Joseph (Sara) Evans, and Tina (Kent) Bird, 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  Also survived by his two sisters Dorinda Monson and Barbara Guest and three brothers David Evans, Michael Evans, and Steven Nelson.

A viewing will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main,  Bountiful from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, December 26th.  A viewing will also be held from 9:45-10:45 am on Wednesday December 27, 2023, with the funeral starting at 11:00 am at their ward building in Centerville at 1125 North 400 West.

Services will be streamed live on Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and this obituary page.
