In Loving Memory of Martin Jay Flanagan 12/09/1955 - 7/11/2025
Martin Jay "Marty" Flanagan, 69, of Boerne, Texas, passed away at home on July 11, 2025.
He was born on December 9, 1955 in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Dolly Mills and Dean Leroy Flanagan. A gifted mechanic with a generous heart, Marty spent over 40 years in expert-level repair work. He was known not only for his skill but for his quiet generosity, always helping neighbors, teaching others, and spending time with his family in creative, thoughtful ways.
Marty had a servant's heart and a wide range of passions. He loved fishing, playing guitar, and cooking. Every spring, he pulled families on hayrides at the Poteet Strawberry Festival. His yard was usually filled with lawnmowers he was fixing for others. A lifelong photography enthusiast, he once taught at a local college and built a darkroom in his home. He handcrafted fishing lures and had a quiet way of making people feel seen, often surprising them with thoughtful gifts tied to their interests. He never missed a Sunday at church.
He is survived by his wife, June Flanagan; daughters, Megan Flanagan and Beverly Rawlins; and son, Shaun Flanagan. He is also survived by his mother, Dolly Mills, and his siblings: Mark Flanagan, Vickie Frederick, Matthew Flanagan, Michael Flanagan, and Mitchell Flanagan.
Marty's legacy continues through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 208 W Bandera Road, Boerne, Texas. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend. A reception will follow at the church.
