Martin J. "Marty" Scibisz, 73 of Ipswich, died on November 19, 2025. Born in Ipswich, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Victoria K. (Terentowicz) Scibisz.
Marty was a lifelong resident of Ipswich, graduating from Ipswich High School in 1971. Although a well-rounded athlete, football would be the sport in which he flourished. He played varsity fullback on the junior high teams, he transitioned to becoming an All-Star Defensive Tackle in high school, earning the nickname "Stonewall" for his consistent ability to stop running plays at or behind the line of scrimmage. He played in the 10th annual Harry Agganis Foundation All-Star game where Villanova University drew an interest in him, but he did not seek to extend a formal education. He was Honorable Discharged from the US Army due to a medical issue. After exploring a variety of jobs trying to find one that allowed him to be outdoors, he eventually settled into the crafts of carpentry and masonry. After retiring he could be seen almost anywhere in town as he took up walking to pass the time and stay in shape.
As an avid outdoorsman he spent much of his spare time in the woods, or on the water. Hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes, but he also enjoyed clamming. His love for fishing started on the upper Ipswich River catching Trout, Bass, and Pickerel then transitioned to saltwater fishing for Striped Bass and Tuna. As time went on, his love of fishing extended beyond being on the water, he started the hobbies of fly-tying and building custom fishing rods, designing exquisite rod wrappings with various patterns of colored threads. He also collected and restored old rods and reels.
Marty is survived by his brothers, Daniel Scibisz and his wife Cheryl of Ipswich, Jack Scibisz and his wife Meredith of Hampton, NH, sister Marcia Pike of South Pasadena, FL. Nieces and nephews Ashley Grant and her husband Warren of Ipswich, Adam Scibisz and his wife Sacha of Ipswich, David Vigneaux and his wife Annie of Salisbury, Robert Vigneaux and his wife Kristen of Boxford, Lysa Burns and her husband Greg of Belmont, NH, Alli Iten and her husband Ben of Seattle, WA, and Krista Scibisz of Seattle, WA. Grandnieces and Grandnephews Silas Grant, Hallie Grant, Joesph Scibisz, Makala Vigneaux, Tori Vigneaux, Kelly Vigneaux, Matthew Vigneaux, Andrew Vigneaux, Lauren Vigneaux and numerous other cousins.
His graveside funeral service will be at Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Town Farm Road in Ipswich, on Tuesday December 2nd at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
