Martin “Marty” Patrick Walsh, age 88, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 in Merrill, Wisconsin. He was born on February 16, 1935 to the late Martin and Evalyn (Snow) Walsh in Chicago, Illinois. In 1955 Martin met Nancy Henrichs at the Badger Theater in Merrill after Martin’s friend set them up on a date. They exchanged vows on January 21, 1956 in Merrill. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2021 after nearly 66 years of marriage.
Martin worked as a colorman at the Ward Papermill for 33 years. In his younger years, he was a mason with his step father, Thomas Noonan. After Ward Papermill closed, Marty finished his work career in construction. Marty thrived being outdoors. Trapping, hunting, and fishing were all a major part of his life. His wife Nancy would often join him hunting and fishing as well. He was very proud of his trophies he took home from his hunting trips. He loved collecting anything that pertained to the outdoors and antiques. He also enjoyed playing cards and traveling and had a good sense of humor.
Marty is survived by his son: Greg (Dana Swindler) Walsh of Minneapolis, MN, and daughter: Chris (Donna Brickey) Walsh of Lyman, SC, daughter-in-law: Reghan Walsh, granddaughter: Erin, great-grandchildren: Bronson, Chloe, and Collin, brother: Donald (Bette) Noonan, sister-in-law: Susan (Dennis Dengel) Briggs and sisters-in-law: Carol and Rose, along with many nieces and nephews and long-time friends: Loretta and Floyd Smith and the entire Smith family. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father: Thomas Noonan, son: Steve, brothers: Tom and Gary Noonan, sister: Linda, brothers-in-law: Duane, “Butch”, and Bobby Henrichs, Larry Briggs and James Kleinschmidt and sister-in-law: LuEllen Kleinschmidt.
A Celebration of Life for Marty will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Kathy and Cal’s Club 64 in Merrill.
