Marty Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Feb. 25, 2026.
Martin R. Johnson, age 70, of Cordova, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026.

Affectionately known as "Marty" he was devoted to his country, his work, his church, his teams, friendships and most of all, his family. He was known for his quick wit, well-timed wisecracks, and his gift for using humor to bring joy to others. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Marty was born on September 4, 1955, in Warren, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Mississippi where he graduated from Ackerman High School in Ackerman Mississippi.

After high school he chose to enlist in the United States Navy serving from 1973 to 1979. During his service, he was stationed aboard the USS Julius A. Furer, a guided missile frigate. His years in the Navy reflected his deep sense of duty and love for his country-qualities that remained evident throughout his life.

Following his military service, Marty built a long and respected career as an electronics technician at the corporate FedEx hub in Memphis, Tennessee. Over 21 years of dedicated service, he became known for his technical expertise, steady work ethic, and reliability. He retired in 2025, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity. In addition to his work history he was thrilled to be part of the Memphis Tigers broadcast radio engineer team for several years traveling with the Tigers.

I don't know if the correct term is radio engineer, or if we need to say "with the KIX 106 broadcast team.

Marty is survived by his loving wife Linda Johnson, Jessica Johnson (daughter) and her husband Todd Ackerman, Charles Beall (stepson). Also, his siblings - Marc Johnson (Marilyn), Tom Johnson (Matthew Reaves), Jhan Johnson (Donna), Elaine Johnson, Amy Ballard (Carl), and Erik Johnson (Melissa); and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard H. Johnson, and his father-in-law, Tom Graves.

A devoted and enthusiastic sports fan, Marty rarely missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, Memphis Tigers, Memphis Grizzlies, Atlanta Braves, and Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball. In honor of Marty's love for sports, the family kindly requests that those attending the funeral service wear their favorite team apparel-or one of Marty's favorite teams. He would be overjoyed to see the colorful show of team spirit.
