Marva Ann Holmes, 80, of Newport News, VA, transitioned peacefully on Dec. 3, 2025 at Riverside Medical Center.

She was born in Charleston, South Carolina on April 18, 1945, daughter of the late Harold Archer and Sarah Washington Archer.

In Charleston, South Carolina is where she met her childhood sweetheart, Clarence Leroy Holmes, Jr. and married on April 20, 1968 for 57 years. From this union one loving, handsome and devoted son was born, Terrence Lamar Holmes.

Marva youthful years were filled with joy and laughter in her stomping grounds of South Carolina with family and friends. She received her education at C.A Brown high school. Upon her completion, she moved to New York and began her new life. Her first career started with the Dept. of Social Services as a case manager for many, many years. This career ended when she moved back to her home in South Carolina to care for her sick mother Sarah (Sadie). When her mother departed, she moved back to New York. Her new career began, and she retired from this job was with Dept. of Education as a Attendance Specialist. She formed many long, lasting friendships and opened her arms to those that needed love and compassion.

Marva was known for her love of cooking, love for eating good food, recipes for baking, traveling, wearing or decorating with the color gold, opening her home to family and friends needing a fresh start and helping those who was sick.

She was strong, even when she was weak, but continued to have a Heart of Gold. Marva has touched many lives in her presence and will stay in our HEARTS FOREVER!

Marva is at peace and with her husband Roy!
