Leverette White Jr., affectionately known as "Puck," entered eternal rest on Friday, February 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded peacefully by his family. He was 87 years old. Leverett was born on March 7, 1938, in
Hopewell, VA to the late Leverett White Sr. and Elizabeth (Barker) White. He was one of eight children.
At an early age, Leverette joined Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a devoted member, where he remained faithful until his passing. His life reflected his faith, commitment to family, and unwavering work ethic.
He left school in the eighth grade to help support his family, beginning work in carpentry alongside his father. It was during those early years that he earned the nickname "Puck." As a young boy working with his father, his father named him "Puck" because he would swing an axe that made a distinctive "pucking" sound when it struck the wood - a name that lovingly followed him throughout his life among family and friends.
In 1958, Leverette married Alease Slade, and from that union came four children: two sons, Wendell White and Ralph White; and two daughters, Peggy Evans and Linda White. He also embraced his stepson, Jeffrey Slade. In January 2001, he married Dorothy Russell, welcoming stepson Kevin Russell and Maxie Russell into his life. He was a devoted husband, father, and provider who took great pride in caring for his family.
In 1959, he began working at the shipyard as a sandblaster. Through dedication and perseverance, he built a career spanning 44 years before retiring. His strong hands and sharp mind were hallmarks of his craft.
Beyond his work, he had a passion for speed and mechanics. He enjoyed racing cars in Suffolk and loved riding motorcycles along the East Coast with his local motorcycle club, "Wheels United". He never owned a vehicle that he didn't modify himself - always fine-tuning engines and adjusting gears to make them just a little faster. His mechanical skill and adventurous spirit were well-known and admired. He also cherished time spent fishing. Whether alone or sharing the day with family and/or friends, he found peace and joy out on the water in his boat.
Leverette was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Linda White; his wife, Dorothy (Russell) White; his stepson Maxie Russell Sr. his sister, Alma Mitchell; and his brothers, Vernon "Cake" White and Hugh "Mate" White.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Wendell White and Ralph White; his daughter, Peggy Evans; his stepsons, Jeffrey Slade (Darlene) and Kevin Russell (Cynthia); his sister, Shirley Dennis; his brothers, Donald White (Shannon), Michael White (Jean), and Irving White (Sarah); special friend Lucredia Eason; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Leverette "Puck" White Jr. will be remembered for his steadfast faith, strong work ethic, love of family, and his lifelong passion for motorcycles and the open road. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
