Marvel Heide

Marvel Heide, age 91, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Tuesday, January 2nd, at Essentia First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lengby with the Rev. Gene Lilienthal officiating. Interment will be in Cross Lake Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Spring Lake VFW Post #2759 of Lengby and the Army National Guard Honors Team. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be extended to St. Paul Church, the Lengby VFW, or Cross Lake Cemetery Fund.

Marvel Duane Heide was born in Clearwater County, Minnesota on July 12, 1932 to parents Albert “Gust” Heide and Mathilda “Tillie” (Johnson) Heide. He grew up in rural Fosston, Minnesota, attending the Pine Hill country school, then Fosston High School, graduating in 1949. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Cross Lake Lutheran Church of Fosston and later St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lengby, Minnesota.

He entered the United States Army in 1953 and served in the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany and England. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He was united in marriage to Deloris Nordlund on September 9, 1956. To this union they were blessed with six children.

Marvel farmed and worked as a truck driver for Land O’ Lakes until his retirement in 1994 with a perfect driving record. He enjoyed his job and visiting the local dairy farmers. As a member of Cross Lake Lutheran Church, he served several positions. He was also a member of the American Legion of Fosston and an active member of the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post 2759 of Lengby, where he served as Commander for a number of years.

His interests included hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors and tinkering and fixing things. He was very good at repairing anything from automotive to home repairs and would drop everything to help his family and friends.

Marvel is survived by his wife of 67 years, Deloris; and their six children, Darrel (Jody) of Lengby, MN, Brian (Tammy) of Moorhead, MN, Valerie (Darrel) Borth of Bagley, MN, Rynell (Bruce) Murphy of Fosston, MN, Miles of Fairmont, MN, and Marlin (Sheila) of Park Rapids, MN. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carol Heide of Fosston, MN, Janet (Gary) Bjerke of Clearbrook, MN, and Beverly Skarsten of Fosston, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marvel was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Schulz; brother, Albert Heide; several in-laws; nieces and nephews and an infant grandson.
