Marvin L. Corbitt, 82, of White Hall, was a generous and loving family man who loved serving both his country and his church.
He passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Marvin was born January 28, 1943, in Elaine, Arkansas, son of William Lester Corbitt and Louise Hartnett Corbitt.
He moved to the Pine Bluff area at a young age and graduated from Dollarway High School in 1961.
Mr. Corbitt was passionate about serving his country from an early age. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960, even before graduating High School. Marvin served both in Vietnam and Cuba during a long military career that lasted a total of 36 years including his time in the Naval Reserves. He retired in 1996 as a Master Chief Boatswain's Mate.
He joined the Cotton Belt Railroad in the 1960s and worked for the railroad for 34 years both in Pine Bluff and in Houston, Texas, retiring from Union Pacific as a Division Budget Officer.
Mr. Corbitt was a lifelong Catholic. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pine Bluff for many years. While living in Texas, he joined St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Humble, Texas. While living in Texas, he earned his Catechist Certification, Acolyte Certification and was a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Ruth Roberts Corbitt; three sons, Marvin Corbitt, II, Jacob Corbitt and Joel Corbitt; and brother, Tommy D. Corbitt.
Survivors include his wife, Bernadine Pitra Corbitt, whom he married March 21, 2024 in Harris County, Texas; daughter, Kellie Corbitt; grandchildren, Boize Cantu and Rebecca Corbitt; step-daughters, Deborah Howorka, Denise Hummel (John) and Dianna Sutliff; step-son, Pat Sutliff (Cindy); step-grandchildren, Bailey Sutliff, Mary Hummel, Rob Hummel (Fatima), Ashlyn Cooper and Kaitlyn Cooper; and step-great-granddaughter, Lucia Hummel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pine Bluff with Father Joseph Marconi and Deacon Noel "Bud" Bryant officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery by Robinson and Fuller White Hall Funeral Chapel.
