Marvin Ehlers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home & Crematory on Dec. 7, 2025.
Marvin Ehlers, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. He was born on October 16, 1932, in LaMoille, Illinois, the son of Walter and Gladys Ehlers, who preceded him in death.
Marvin was the beloved husband of Barbara (née Baudino) and the devoted father of Steve (Cathy), Bruce (Beth), and Brian (Sue). He was a proud grandfather to Laura, Kristin (Brandon), Tori (Ryan), Katie, Jenni, Matthew, and Zachary (Dana), and a cherished great-grandfather to Cooper. Marvin is also survived by his brother Norman (Martha), as well as one niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Scott Ehlers.
Marvin's professional life reflected his curiosity, leadership, and dedication to service. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from the University of Illinois, followed by an MBA from the University of Chicago. He began his career as a Base Engineering Officer in the United States Air Force, serving for a little over two years.
He went on to hold several significant leadership roles, including Corporate Director of Information Systems at Smith International and Vice President of Information Systems at Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America. Marvin also gave generously of his time to his community, serving as a member of the elected board of Deerfield–Riverwoods Elementary School District 110 and later as an elected Trustee for the Village of Deerfield. His passion for history led him to serve as President of the Illinois State Historical Society.
