Marvin Edward Matthiae, a dedicated dairy farmer and a beloved family man, was born on February 11, 1933, on the family farm in Cassel, Wisconsin, the son of Edward and Ruth (Woller) Matthiae. He peacefully departed this world on November 19, 2025, in Wausau, Wisconsin, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love, and cherished memories.
After meeting Angeline Steidinger at a polka dance, they were married on April 21, 1954. They were blessed with 71 beautiful years together and worked side by side on their dairy farm for 60 years, cultivating not only the land, but also a deep bond grounded in partnership and shared goals. His commitment to farming was evident as he drove a tractor until the remarkable age of 90, showcasing his undying passion for the life he built.
Marvin’s heart was filled with joy whenever he spent time at the cabin with his family, where gatherings became the cornerstone of their shared experiences. The laughter of children and the warmth of loved ones surrounded him, creating timeless memories that will forever echo in the hearts of his family. He also enjoyed Sheepshead, polka dancing, and watching football. His devotion extended to his children, Linda (Rod) Golding, LouAnn (Robin) Vercimak, Laureen (Darrell) Steinke, Leon (Rose) Matthiae, and Lyle (Jodi) Matthiae, who carry forward his spirit of love and togetherness.
A proud grandfather and great-grandfather, "Grandpa on the farm" was endlessly delighted by his grandchildren Heather (Joel) Luckow, Philip (Jenny) Golding, Derek (Maria) Vercimak, Kurt (Kara) Vercimak, Clint (Erica) Steinke, Justin (Vanessa) Steinke, Megan (Brandon) Maszk, Chase (Jorgi) Matthiae, and Deion Matthiae along with his great-grandchildren, including William Luckow, Anna Luckow, Payton Golding, Leah (Jason) Pentimone, Kaiden Vercimak, Ella Vercimak, Teagan Vercimak, Hazel Vercimak, Daizy Vercimak, Jayda Steinke, Carson Steinke, Kendyl Steinke, Hunter Steinke, Emery Steinke, Enley Steinke, Mayzie Maszk, and Bristal Maszk. Each moment spent with them enriched his life, reinforcing the bonds of family that were paramount to him.
Marvin’s life was not solely defined by his role as a farmer; he also served his community with pride. He took on the responsibilities of being the Chairman of the Town of Easton, served as Fire Chief of the Easton Volunteer Fire Department, and held the position of DHIA Board President. His commitment to service exemplified his character and his love for his community.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife, five children, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, siblings Evelyn (Rueben) Dehnel, Maynard (Shila) Matthiae, David (Gloria) Matthiae, RuthAnn (Ron) Butalla, and Mark (Laurie) Matthiae, along with sister-in-law Mavis Steidinger and brother-in-law Gordon Baumann. They, along with many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends, will miss his gentle spirit, kind heart, and the cherished moments they had together.
He is preceded in death by his beloved family members, including his parents, sister Dorothy Matthiae, brother Elmer Matthiae, his parents-in-law Herman Sr. and Anna Steidinger, brothers-in-law Milton Brandt, Herman Steidinger Jr., and sisters-in-law Arlene Brandt and Valeria Baumann.
Marvin lived a life devoted to his family, his community, and his passions. His legacy will continue through the love he shared and the memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. His gentle soul will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered, by all who had the privilege to share in his life.
