On February 17, 2024, Marvin Luther Shows, the patriarch of our family entered into eternal rest after a job well done here on earth. Marvin was born August 31, 1937 in Mississippi to Wilber and Martha Lee.
At the age of 17 Marvin enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. After honorably serving his country Marvin moved to Columbus, Ohio and began a long career as a laborer with Capital Drywall and would retire from South Texas Drywall. After retiring Marvin was not one to sit still so he began delivering for Meals on Wheels.
Marvin was a true family man. Affectionately known to everyone as "Grandpa" or "Paw Paw". He would start every morning having a cup of coffee and conversing with his wife Joyce, then he would make his morning calls to check in on his kids. He loved bonding with his children over lottery scratch-offs, crossword puzzles and his tablet. Marvin loved to go to the lake with his family to fish and he loved to watch westerns. He loved to cook and when he cooked he did it BIG! He would have everyone begging for the recipe for his perfect collard greens.
Marvin was a devoted deacon. He spent many years leading devotion at God's House of Deliverance under the leadership of Bishop David McDonald. Later he would lead devotion at Paradise Baptist Church as the head deacon. He truly loved The Lord. Everyone that worshipped with him knew when he had the mic they were going to be singing "Give me that Old Time Religion."
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; Sisters, Odell, Elizabeth S., Minnie, Elizabeth K.; brothers, Frank and Curtis; daughter, Nicole.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, helpmeet and best friend of 44 years, Joyce Shows; Children, Deborah, Roline, Noel, Teresa (Marlin), John (Quatessia), Jermaine (Wakesha), Marquetta (Ryan), adopted daughter Jasmine, Bonus Son Maurice; siblings, Rufus, Margeurite (Charles) of Mississippi and Carolyn of Washington D.C.; grandchildren, Lakisha (Dell), Marvin, Temeka (Dytanion), John, Antiono, Michael, Maurice, Marshawn, Cheron (Caprina), Antoine, Fredrina, Tyresha, Kevin, Tiziana, Marquez, Marqaevion, Jermaine Jr., London, Lisa; 54 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
