Marvin VanGundy, age 74 passed away peacefully September 23, 2024 at Vitas Healthcare Inpatient Hospice Unit in Rockledge, Florida due to cancer. He was born February 23, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio to Zoheletha and Clement VanGundy. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard, Lester "Barney" and Gerald VanGundy. Childhood best friend Ray Scarberry.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1975-1980. He was also a Freemason at Heber Lodge 501 in Williamsport, Ohio. Marvin retired from the State of Ohio. Orient Correctional Institution in Orient, Ohio. His hobbies were shopping at Walmart, eating out, motorcycle riding. Also watching his Ohio State Buckeyes football games, Gunsmoke, Laurel & Hardy, and 3 Stooges movies.
He is survived by his wife Mary E. VanGundy of Melbourne, Florida. Children, Melissa VanGundy-Simmons Elgin of South Carolina, Marvin S. VanGundy of Ashville, Ohio, Beth Hackney of Melbourne, Florida, and Christie Hackney of Thornville, Ohio and Roger Swisher of Melbourne, Florida. Grandchildren- Tyler, Cody, Vanessa, Brandon (Jenna) Simmons, Shayna, Kamren Shane, Maressa, Mikey, Michael, Andrew, and Kayla. Great Grand Children-Lane Brice and Jamilah.
Family will receive friends on Friday, October 4, 2024, beginning at 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 noon at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Columbus, Ohio 43207, with Pastor Charles Blake officiating. Burial to follow with military honors at Groveport Cemetery, Groveport, Ohio.
