Smithfield, NC: Mrs. Mary Edwards Allen, age 82, of Smithfield passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be held-11:00 AM Friday, October 27, 2023 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Rev. Roger Hill. Burial will follow in Sandy Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Angier.
Mrs. Allen was born on September 1, 1941 in Johnston County to the late Genadious Elmo and Annie Lee Olive Edwards. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Allen and sister, Peggy Schaffner. Prior to retirement, she owned her own dog care and grooming business. She had a passion for all animals, especially dogs and built long lasting relationships during those years. She was a compassionate caregiver to both her mother and husband prior to their passing. She loved genealogy and spent years researching and traveling, piecing together her family tree. She was also an active member at Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church where she enjoyed being apart of the Ladies Auxiliary. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Vikki Allen of Texas; grandchildren, Gunner Allen and Garrett Allen both of Texas; brother, Jimmy Edwards and wife, Jan of Roxboro; nephews, Brian Edwards and Chris Edwards both of Roxboro; and cousin, Myrtle Wallace of Clayton.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks, NC.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to the A.S.P.C.A at 520 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018.
