Mrs. Mary Magdeline Townley Anderson, better known as “Maggie”, 79, of Wahatchee Creek Road, Elberton, wife of 49 years to the late William Harold Anderson, departed this life and entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, July 21, 2024. Her last days were spent at home surrounded by the love of her family.
Maggie was born in Atlanta on November 8, 1944, daughter of the late Emory Fratus Townley and Helen Grace Gilleland Townley. She was a proud 1962 graduate of Forsyth County High School and looked forward to attending all of the class reunions that her health would allow. She lived most of her life in Forsyth County where she and Harold farmed. In 2005, they moved to Elberton where she continued farming until her health began to decline. She accepted the Lord as her savior at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and was a current member of Middleton Methodist Church. Maggie was a devoted mother, nana, sister, and friend to all.
Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses: Judy and Ed Garner and Jerry and Tammy Anderson, all of Elberton; grandchildren: Kimberly Garner, Micheal Garner, Tanya and Ben Hill, and Janna Anderson; great-granddaughter, Katie Lynn Garner; siblings: Barbara Matthews, Diane Noles, and Kerry Keyes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Along with her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her son, James Harold Anderson; granddaughter, Tanna Amber Anderson; and siblings: Bobby Townley, Geneva Townley, and Cozetta Armour.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Tuesday, July 23, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Maggie’s life will be conducted on Wednesday, July 24, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. Douglas Huff, Rex Garmany, and Scott Day officiating. Interment will follow in the Middleton Methodist Church cemetery.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Middleton Methodist Church, PO Box 660, Elberton, GA 30635.
