Mary Louise "Weesie" Anderson passed away peacefully in Columbia on January 23, 2026.

Born in Anderson on October 30, 1951, Weesie was the daughter of the late Joe Major and Clarissa Watson Anderson, growing up on the family home place which became Watson Village Shopping Center in 1962.

A longtime member of First Baptist Church, she was a graduate of Hanna High School and Trident Tech, with a degree in Child Development. Her love of children led her into a 35-year career in childcare development at First Baptist Church and later at Boulevard Baptist. She was loved by generations of children who later became parents and grandparents bringing their children to "Miss Weesie" for care.

She was a longtime resident at Cardinal Park before moving to Dominion Senior Living in Anderson and finally at the Presbyterian Home in Columbia to be near her family. Although she suffered many health issues during her life, Weesie had many friends, loved people and was a caring friend, always concerned about the welfare of everyone else. She greatly enjoyed her fellow residents and group activities at the Presbyterian Home, rarely missing an outing on the Presbyterian Home Bus. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends in Anderson and Columbia.

Weesie is survived by her sister, Tippi Anderson Craig, brother, Joe Anderson (Carol), nieces and nephews, Kevin Craig (Christi), Ashley Pender (Bru), Joe Anderson, III (Jane), Gerrard Anderson (Ashley), Van Anderson (Frances), ten great nieces and nephews and beloved cousin, Jack Sword (Laura) from Carlsbad, California.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 1:00-1:45 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Dr. Jim Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in the Watson family plot at Old Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson.

Memorials may be made to Anderson First Baptist Church Child Development Center, 307 S. Manning St., Anderson, SC 29624.
