Mary Ann Carter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tippecanoe Funeral & Cremation Services on Nov. 5, 2025.

Mary Ann Carter, 74, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born in Lafayette on January 18, 1951, to the late Betty Jarrett and Melvin Carter, Mary Ann lived a life full of laughter, sass, and heart. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose sharp wit and big love made her unforgettable.

She is survived by her two sons, Fabian Carroll (Julia Kauffman) and Michael Carter, both of Lafayette; her cherished grandchildren Justin and Haley Carter, also of Lafayette; her sister Dorthy Carter; and her dear friends Diane Overly and Mary Korte. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Terry Walters, Melvin Walters, and Robert Carter.

Mary Ann was known for her sense of humor and her habit of "tormenting" the kids-usually about their choice of words. She kept everyone on their toes and wasn't afraid to call out a potty mouth when she heard one. Her boys say she'd want everyone to know that just because she's gone doesn't mean you can get away with it-she'll still be listening, and you'd better watch your language or else!

She loved to cook, and her famous beef and noodles-a recipe passed down from her mother-will forever be remembered as pure comfort in a bowl. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and taking care of her family. Over the years, she worked as a licensed hairstylist and a nurse's aide, but her favorite job was being at home raising her boys. They recall Mom always trying out new hairstyles and colors on them-some hits, some definite misses-but always done with love and laughter.

Mary Ann adored a good western and never missed her soap operas. When she finally figured out how to record them, she was ecstatic-never again would life interfere with her "stories." Her beloved dog, JR, a Golden Retriever/Dachshund mix, was her pride and joy.

She loved her grandchildren beyond measure, showering them with affection, cookies, and advice they'll cherish forever.

As Fabian and Michael say their goodbyes, they take comfort knowing Mom's probably got one eyebrow raised from above, keeping an ear out for any slip-ups and ready to send a little heavenly static if the language gets too colorful.

Services will be held Monday, November 10, 2025, at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Funeral and Cremation Services, 3631 Morehouse Rd, West Lafayette, IN 47906.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial immediately after.
