Mary Theresa Apollonia Atkinson, age 91 of Montello passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, September 8, 2025. Mary was born in Montello on June 19, 1934 to Valentine and Frances (Nowak) Wianecki and graduated from Montello High School in 1952. She was united in marriage to Harlan Atkinson on February 20, 1954 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Together they raised their five children on the family farm in the Town of Buffalo. Harlan preceded Mary in death on May 24, 2011.
Mary enjoyed polka music and was a huge fan of Mollie B. She filled her time with word searches, watching game shows and always looked forward to going for a ride with Darrin. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, heart of gold and unstoppable work ethic.
Mary is survived by her five children: Darrin of Montello, Dennis (Connie) of Montello, Diane Buchholz of Oshkosh, Dorene (Russ) Puterbaugh of Montello and Darlene (Tim) Zellmer of Horicon. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, one brother, Vince (Bev) Wianecki and other extended family members.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Greg (Louise) Wianecki, Sylvester (Dorothy) Wianecki, Albert (Joanne) Wianecki, Angela (Don) Soeder and Marcella (Joe) Grudzinski.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Atkinson will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Father Savio Yerasani will preside and burial will follow at U.P. Cemetery, Town of Buffalo. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family.
