Mary Barbara Wintermyer

1930 - 2023

Mary Barbara Wintermyer passed peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the age of 92. Barbara was born on December 11, 1930 in Washington, DC to the late James Ferguson McNally and Lavinia Robey McNally Welch. She was preceded in death by her only and younger brother James Francis McNally. She was married to Paul J. Wintermyer for 72 years. She devoted her life to raising her five children: Bobbi Beard (Allen); Patti Ritter; Mike Wintermyer (Elvira); Donna McCullough (Reed); and Deb Walukonis (Bob). She was a loving Nana to her eleven grandchildren: Cliff Jenks; Amy Marino (Nick); Brian Ritter (Michelle); Megan Macri (Anthony); Mike McCullough; Brooke Overholser (John); Anja Hunich; Patricia Leggieri (Mike); Michael Wintermyer; Tyler Huffman; and Chris Huffman. She also had fifteen wonderful great grandchildren.

In her younger years, Barbara was an accomplished dancer and performed in dance recitals as well as school plays. She enjoyed being on stage. Barbara graduated from Holy Cross Academy in Washington, DC in 1948. Barbara married Paul in 1951. She briefly worked for the federal government before starting a family in 1952, but she was primarily a homemaker. When her youngest reached school age, she worked for many years as a sales associate at a Rockville children's clothing boutique. The family lived in the Rockville area for 34 years. Barbara and Paul resided in Leisure World in Silver Spring for 23 years before moving to Frederick to spend her remaining 11 years. She was a long-time member of the following Rockville Catholic parishes: St. Mary's, St. Elizabeth's, and St. Patrick's.

Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Family meant so much to her. Barbara's final weeks were spent with her family and close friends, whether in person, on phone, or by Face Time. It was a very special time reminiscing and laughing about the old times. She left us knowing how much she was loved and cherished by her family.

For 75 years, Barbara and Paul experienced everything in life together. And for this reason, they have chosen to have a joint Celebration of Life when the time comes for Paul to join her. In memory of Barbara, donations can be made to Frederick Health Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
