Mary Elizabeth Beight

1941 - 2026

Mary Elizabeth Beight, 84, of Brookville, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.

Mary was born on August 26, 1941, to the late Paul N. and Alice (Kennedy) Spear in New Wilmington.

She attended Wilmington Area School in New Wilmington.

Mary went on to attend Thiel College in Greenville to earn her bachelor's degree in education.

After she graduated from Thiel, she attended California College, in California, Pa., for her permanent certification and emphasis on reading specialist.

Mary married Donald W. Beight on June 15, 1963. Don preceded her in passing on March 7, 2022.

She taught first grade in Shanksville – Stoney Creek Schools in Shanksville. She also taught first grade in the Brookville Area School District, where she retired to have a family.

She returned to the classroom from 1975-1997 as a substitute teacher for K-12th grades.

Mary was active in the Sigel Methodist Church before moving to Emerickville and then to the First United Methodist Church in Brookville, where she was active in ladies groups, especially United Methodist Women and the Women's Christian Group.

Mary was an auditor in Eldred Township then later became a judge of election in Pinecreek Township.

She enjoyed showing American Saddlebreds and Morgan horses in the Tri-State Circuit.

Survivors include one son, Kevin; daughter-in-law, Nancy; one grandson, Kolton and his wife, Katelyn.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in passing by two sons, Brian and Neal.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church, located at 205 Jefferson Street in Brookville.

A funeral service will be held immediately following the viewing beginning at 11 a.m. also at the church, with Pastor Joe Short officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Brookville Fire Company, Pinecreek Fire Company or Rebecca M. Arthurs Library.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McKinney – d'Argy Funeral Home, located at 345 Main Street in Brookville.

Interment will take place at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Eldred Township, Jefferson County.
