Mary Beth LaFata, age 80, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in Sandy, Utah. Born on March 2, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to Delmar and Mary Rose (Crilly) Peterson, Mary Beth lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family and friends.
On May 25, 1968, she married the love of her life, John LaFata, and together they built a beautiful life grounded in love, faith, and joy. Mary Beth’s warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and cherished, and her quick wit and gentle spirit brightened every room she entered.
Mary Beth found her greatest happiness in time spent with her loved ones’ family gatherings, holidays, and simple moments shared over games or puzzles. She loved to travel, play tennis, ski, and attend aquacise classes, embracing life with enthusiasm and gratitude for every experience.
She is survived by her children, John LaFata (Amber) and Mary Jo Parker (Andrew); her grandchildren Michael and Nicholas Parker, Bailey Plocher (Ian), Lillie and Easton LaFata; and her great-grandson Wells Plocher, along with her brother David Peterson (Veronica). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John, her parents Delmar and Mary Rose Peterson, and her brother Herb Peterson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, with a viewing beginning at 12:30 PM, followed by interment at 3115 East Bengal Boulevard (7800 South), Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
Mary Beth will be remembered for her unwavering love, her joyful spirit, and the beautiful legacy of kindness she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
