Mary Lue Binning

Mary Lue Binning, a strong, humorous, intelligent, and well loved woman, passed away March 7, 2025 in Mishawaka IN at the age of 84.
Born and raised in York NE on June 24, 1940 to the late Harlow and Madeline (Cavender) Bottum.
Mary Lue earned her bachelor's degree from Hastings College in NE, and her master's in library science from IUSB. She worked as a librarian for SBCSC for over 25 years. She loved to read and you could find her nose in a book in most of her free time. She also loved working and mentoring the middle school kids she met. She was often invited to their weddings years later. After retiring she and her husband Brian spent winters in FL and part of the summer in Traverse City MI.
She was a devoted and active member of Sunnyside church for over 50 years. She played in the bell choir, taught Sunday school, and served as a deacon.
Mary Lue was preceded in death by her loving husband Brian Binning and older brother Richard Bottum.She was a loving mother to son Bret (Brenda) Binning of NC, and daughter Gretchen Kirkland of Granger. She was adored by grandchildren, Kevin, Mattie, and Jesse Kirkland. She is also survived by her wonderful sister in law Barbara Hixson, nephew John (Debbie) Hixson, and niece Jennifer Carney all of Lincoln, NE and nephew Mark Bottum, and niece Jeri Sue (Eddie) Blackwell of CO.
Mary Lue will be remembered as a fun loving, gentle woman of faith and kindness.
