Mary Joan Bradfield was born on June 11, 1943, in Ben Hill, Georgia to the late Charlie Thornton and Mozelle (Thornton) Jenkins.
Mary, fondly known as "Joan", was a devout Christian and accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She joined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the various choirs over the years. She especially loved singing in the J. W. Wheat Gospel Choir. Joan attended South Fulton High School and was a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and a majorette for their marching band. She often spoke of her days as a majorette. She obtained gainful employment at First National Bank, Scripto, and Haverty's Furniture Company where she retired. She also volunteered for SCLC alongside Hosea Williams for a few years.
Mary entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Harris; loving parents Charlie Thornton and Mozelle (Thornton) Jenkins; sisters Patricia Hindsman and Cynthia Sims; and brothers John Thornton and Elijah Sims.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son and daughter, Michael Bradfield and Monica Grandberry; siblings, Judy Cantrell and Aubrey Jenkins; sisters-in-law, Ella Sims and Janet Thornton; three grandchildren, Kandese Brown, Aris (Joshua) Harris, Joshua Mitchell; eight great grandchildren; two very special aunts, Annette Bradfield and Jeanette Cleveland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 2685 Barge Road, SW Atlanta GA 30331. Interment Westview Cemetery To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Mary, please visit our Tree Store.
