Mary Katherine "Kay" Niemeyer Brown passed away on October 14, 2025, at the age of 81 in Willards, MD, after suffering a stroke. Born on February 19, 1944, in Baltimore, MD, Kay's life was characterized by her creativity, independent spirit and deep love for her family and pets.
Her husband, John W. Brown (deceased), was the love of her life. They are survived by two daughters, Kristin (Brown) Walston of Willards and her husband, Mike Walston, and Andrea Joy (Brown) Rowland of Venice, FL, and her partner, Eric Pinchak; four grandchildren-Nick and Cole Rickards, Alexa Hurley and Finn Pinchak; and three great-grandchildren.
Kay earned her bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland - Baltimore County. A talented artist and loving stay-at-home mom, she ran her own art business while raising her family and channeled her commitment to helping those in need into volunteer work at The Holly Center and part-time work at the Life Crisis Center in Salisbury, MD.
A passionate pet owner and animal advocate, Kay found joy in the company of her furry family members. She unleashed her enthusiasm for gardening throughout the property she loved so much. In her later years, she worked part-time at a local boarding facility and nursery. Cooking was another of Kay's many talents, and she delighted in preparing meals and treats for her loved ones. Her adventurous spirit took her on travels around the world, often with her daughter Kris. Kay was happiest when she was at the beach, feeling the sand between her toes, or curled up with a good book and her pets by her side.
She will be missed-but as Kay painted on the urn she decorated years ago for her passing, "Love never dies."
Per Kay's wishes, her immediate family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Humane Society of Wicomico County, 5130 Citation Dr, Salisbury, MD 21804.
