Matthew 25:21, “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, Mary Elizabeth Taylor Brown, better known as “Liz”, passed away suddenly but peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Elberton. She was three days shy of her 76th birthday.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-love: Bruce Michael Brown and Tracy Gurley Brown of Elberton and Brian Andrew Brown and his wife Erin Kea Brown of Dublin; grandchildren and their significant others: Michaela Allison Brown, Madison Renae Brown and Ty Smith, Keaton Andrew Brown and Graycee McNease, and Tucker Walden Brown and Brayleigh Rowland; siblings: June Delores Taylor, Louie Taylor of Vanna, and Roger Taylor and his wife Alice of Hartwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

On November 4, 1967, she married her best friend and the love of her life, James Andrew “Jimmy” Brown, Jr., and they celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his death on November 7, 2017.Working in finance for most of her career, Liz spent many years serving the Elberton Community as a bank teller at both Granite City and First National banks. She later worked for Dr. Don Dye’s Optometrist Office before working as a collection specialist at the Department of Family and Child Services, from which she retired after many years of service.
Liz was a faithful member of Elberton Christian Church where she was active in the Ladies Ministry as well as the Messenger Sunday School class. She looked forward to outings with her “lunch bunch” and enjoyed her involvement with the WOW group, a social circle for widows at Deep Creek Baptist Church. Liz was an honorary member of the Barney Parker Class at Dudley Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Of all of things that can be said about Liz, it is most important for everyone to know that her family was her most prized possession. Not only was she “Meme” to her immediate family, she was “Meme” to many. She relished quality time spent with her family and friends alike, always ready to give and receive the best hugs ever - “BIG HUG” until we meet again!
