The family of Maria Louise (Mary Lou) Buonocore is saddened to announce her unexpected passing on October 5, 2025, at the age of 76.
She was born on March 22, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY to Nicholas and Helen (Lombardi) Cavallaro.
She married the love of her life, Roy Buonocore, on March 27, 1976. They moved to Staten Island in 1983 and Mary Lou resided there until the time of her passing. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, and aunt who treasured spending time with her family and friends.
Mary Lou had a keen eye for style with her boundless closets of clothing and overflowing jewelry boxes and always felt her best with her nails perfectly manicured and wearing the right shade of red lipstick. She was a devoted cat mom to her many cherished felines over the years who were truly the center of her world.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roy and her parents Nicholas and Helen.
She is survived by her loving brother Salvatore (Butch) Cavallaro and his wife Camille; her nephew Nicholas Cavallaro and his wife Maria, and niece Andrea Gioia-DeFeo and her husband Joseph. Also surviving are her five adoring grandnieces :Caileen,
Giavonna, Sophia, Cassandra and Rosalia, and one grandnephew, Nico, who they affectionally nicknamed her ''Lulu''.
Memorial Visitation will take place on November 18, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the John Vincent Scalia Home For Funeral Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10312. A Memorial Prayer Service will take place at.12:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Interment of cremains will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor her memory to do so by
donating to the Best Friends Animal Society, or by simply performing an act of kindness for someone in need (just as she often did by generously donating to many charities).
