Mother Weatherspoon entered this world on December 7, 1935, a precious gift to the late George and Mamie Burns. In time, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Frank Weatherspoon, and together they built a beautiful family and a life rooted in faith. At the age of 30, in 1965, Mother Weatherspoon accepted Christ as her personal Savior at Love Tabernacle COGIC under the leadership of Elder and Mother McDowell.
In 1969, she received the Holy Spirit, beginning a lifelong and unwavering walk with God. Her devotion to her church family was steadfast. She served faithfully as President of the Hospitality Board and lifted her voice joyfully as a member of the choir. Mother Weatherspoon was known for her vibrant praise. She loved to dance before the Lord, tambourine in hand, worshipping with a joy that was unmistakable and contagious. Her praise was not just an expression, it was a testimony of her deep love for God.
With a heart full of patience, kindness, and quiet strength, she dedicated many years to caring for children. She lovingly served as a nanny for Dr. and Mrs. Gallien, nurturing their three children through their early years. She later continued her caregiving with Dr. and Mrs. Cindy Rogers until relocating to Marietta, Georgia, where she worked for Charlie and Tammy Bailey until their children reached school age. Her gentle spirit touched every home she entered.
In her senior years, Mother Weatherspoon found joy in creating gifts with her hands. She lovingly sewed blankets and crafted pillows for countless people; each one a small piece of her heart, a keepsake that many will cherish forever.
Mother Weatherspoon also loved to cook especially for her family. Preparing meals was one of the ways she expressed her love, and her kitchen was often filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting aromas of dishes made with care. She especially enjoyed baking cookies, a sweet treat she delighted in sharing with those she loved. Feeding others brought her joy, and her family will forever cherish the memories created around her table.
From the blessed union of Frank and Mother Weatherspoon, six children were born. She leaves to cherish her memory:
Ricky (Gloria) Weatherspoon of Savannah, TN; Vick (Virginia) Weatherspoon of Marietta, GA; Raymond (known as Penny) Weatherspoon of Nashville, TN; Don Weatherspoon of Marietta, GA; Herbert (Linda) Weatherspoon of Nashville, TN; and her one beloved daughter, Hope Weatherspoon of Marietta, GA.
She is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Freddy (Joanne) Burns and sister, Trudy Pitts of Milwaukee, WI; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were blessed by her warmth and grace.
Mother Weatherspoon now rejoins those who went before her: her devoted husband, Frank Weatherspoon; her parents, George and Mamie Burns; her granddaughter, LaTeshia Weatherspoon; her sisters, Georgia Hollingsworth and Joanne Weatherspoon; and her brothers, Bill Bailey and Edward Burns.
And while our hearts feel the weight of her absence, we take comfort in knowing that when she entered Heaven, she did so just as she lived dancing with her tambourine, having a hallelujah praise time before the Lord. Her joyful worship, once witnessed here on earth, now continues in glory.
Her life was a testament to faith, service, and love. Her joyful praise, her giving hands, her community presence, and her gentle spirit will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
