Mary Lee Katen Calvert was born in San Francisco, CA on August 12, 1941 to parents, Frank Katen and Mamie Bettencourt Katen. Mary was raised most of her life in Dos Palos, CA, where she graduated high school in 1959. Mary moved to FT. Worth, TX in 1971. There, she met the love of her life, William "Cal" Shelton Calvert Sr. Their relationship began in the year 1974 and they were married on November 24, 1976. They had almost 40 years together before his passing on April 23, 2014. She proudly gained 3 sons in his union, whom she loved and considered her own. Mary joined the Order of the Eastern Star in November of 1982 in Ft. Worth, TX and held several positions in subordinate Chapters as well as at the Grand Chapter level. At the time of her passing, her membership was at Athens Chapter No. 177, where she was a Past Matron and an endowed member. She held Secretary for several years and held other offices, as well. She was also an endowed member of TMRC Chapter #1145 in Arlington, TX.
Mary and Cal loved camping, fishing, and spending quality time with the kids and grandkids. Upon his retirement in 1992, they moved from Hurst, TX to Lake Palestine, where they enjoyed many years of "Lake Living." They were often to be found down on their dock doing what they both enjoyed doing...fishing, boating, jet skiing, and just enjoying being together. They were both very active with the Sharon
Shriners Hospital, Sharon Jeep Patrol, and Sharons Director's Staff. Mary loved and took pride in her yard and outdoor activities. She was well known for her quick wit and sharp tongue but also a giving and loving heart. Mary loved her dogs and her "adopted" dogs. She loved her Portuguese family and roots. She shared and passed down many of her recipes and traditions.
