Mary Elizabeth Lambert-Carter was born on October 15, 1941, to the late Mr. Hybert Lambert, Sr., and
Mrs. Mary Jane Lambert in Perdue Hill, AL. She was the first child of six children born to this union.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Spencer and James Lambert; and two sisters,
Adella and Mary Louise "Maggie" Lambert.
Mary Lambert-Carter graduated from Union High School in 1959. She cherished the lifelong friendships
she made and took pride in maintaining connections with her classmates throughout the years.
Mary was a dedicated woman to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Even at an early age, she was a faithful
member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Claiborne, AL. It was there that she received her foundation
of Bible principles and standards that followed her throughout life. On or about 1966, Sister Carter joined
St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Pensacola, FL. She served faithfully as the President of St. John's
Mission Ministry and was an active member of First West Florida District Mission Association where she
served a term as the District Missionary President. Sister Carter served tirelessly as the Children's
Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess Ministry, Hospitality Committee, and Sanctuary Choir.
Mary was one of the pillars of the Lambert-Carter family, and she dedicated her life to making others feel
special by honoring them through celebrations, parties, and cooking special meals. Above all, she placed
a special emphasis on God, family, and serving others. Mary enjoyed volunteering with Council on Aging
as a Senior Companion that helped other older adults live independently at home in addition to alerting
doctors and family members to potential health problems.
Her legacy will reverberate throughout the Lambert-Carter family, St. John Missionary Baptist Church
family, and where everyone feels like family throughout the West Florida Community.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Darryl W. Lambert of Pensacola, FL, and Horace Carter, Jr. of
Odenton, MD; one brother: Hybert Lambert, Jr. of Brewton, AL; one stepdaughter: Linda Degraff
McFarlane of Columbus, GA; one granddaughter: Marcia Harris (Hillary); two great-granddaughters:
