Mary Elizabeth Cotton, affectionately known to many as "Bo Peep," passed away at the age of 79 on November 8, 2025, in Detroit, Michigan. Born on October 10, 1946, in Montgomery, Alabama, Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Throughout her life, Mary demonstrated an exceptional commitment to her work as a linesman at General Motors, where she was cherished by her work family. Her dedication and warm spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.

Mary's life was filled with the joys of family and the simple pleasures of cooking and travel. She had a particular passion for soul food and was renowned for her special BBQ sauce, potato salad, deviled eggs and her homemade pound cake from scratch, which was always the highlight of family gatherings and BBQs. Her love for long drives to visit family underscored her devotion to those she held dear.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Cotton Jr., grandson Anthony Williams, sisters Ida and Christine, and son-in-law Edward Mann, Mary is survived by her loving children: Zederick (Carla) Jones, Remele Mann, Eric Cotton, and Deonte Cotton. Additionally, she leaves behind a legacy through her cherished grandchildren: Zederick Jr., Dillan, Deidre, Mann Mann, Emaginae, Michael, Brittany, Leviticus, Donald, Eric Jr., Sabriya, Nicholas, Erin, Arissa, Deonte Jr., Deanna and Damir (DJ). Mary's memory will also live on through her great-grandchildren: Daja, Jaydin, Michael Jr., Zendaya, Dakota, Dakari, Chozen Cotton and Zora.

Mary is survived by her brothers and sisters: Clarence (Josie) Moore Jr., Kathryn Jones, and John (Debbie) Jones. She also leaves behind special nieces Andrea (Jeff) McCoy and Shonna Pruitt, along with a multitude of other nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.

Mary will be remembered as a woman of great warmth and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand and share her love with those around her. Her spirit and love for life will remain a source of inspiration for all who knew her.
