Mary Elizabeth Carter Craddock
Mary Elizabeth Carter Craddock, age 96, of Clemson, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025.
Born in Ruffin, North Carolina, on December 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John Robert Carter and the late Kate Frances Hall Carter. Mary was a devoted wife to Dr. Garnet Roy Craddock Sr., with whom she shared 76 years of loving marriage. Together, they made Clemson their home since 1955.
Mary was a faithful member of Clemson United Methodist Church, where she taught in the youth division for twelve years. She was also active in the Clemson University Women’s Club and the Clemson Garden Club, contributing her time and talents to her community.
Professionally, Mary held accounting positions with Dan River Mills in Danville, Virginia; J.A. Jones Construction Company in Radford, Virginia; Oscar Mayer & Co. in Madison, Wisconsin; and Clemson University. She later found joy working with children and retired in 1988 after thirteen years with Fort Hill Presbyterian Weekday Kindergarten.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Garnet R. Craddock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Garnet R. Craddock Jr. (Karen Harrell Craddock) of Newnan, Georgia, and Hugh Gregory Craddock (Melania Maziar Craddock) of Charlotte, North Carolina; five grandchildren, David Joshua Craddock, Jeremy Paul Craddock (Cassie Craddock), Matthew Ryan Craddock, Elizabeth Ann Craddock (Matthew Chism), and William Garnet Craddock (Margaret Craddock); and five great-grandchildren, Emerson Craddock, Avett Craddock, Max Chism, Macie Chism and Lorraine Craddock. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, October 11, 2025 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home & Cremations, 108 Cross Creek Road, Central, SC 29630.
The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clemson United Methodist Church Building Fund, 300 Frontage Road, Clemson, SC 29631.
