Mary Lou Croniser Obituary

BOONVILLE - Mary Lou Croniser, 88, a longtime resident of Brown Road, town of Leyden, and more recently of Lewis County Extended Care Facility, Lowville, passed away, while surrounded by the loving care of her family, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the care facility in Lowville.

Mary Lou was born in Fish Creek, Town of Lewis, on December 1, 1936, a daughter of Matthew and Mary Cavanaugh Samson. As a youngster she moved, with her family, to Lyons Falls, where she grew up and graduated from Lyons Falls Central School, with the Class of 1955. On October 15, 1955, Mary Lou was united in marriage with Francis "Frank" Croniser, at St. John's Church, Lyons Falls. Afterwards, the couple lived in Boonville, until moving to their home in the Town of Leyden, in 1959. Frank, who was a well-known logger and later, co-owner with his son, Barry, of Croniser Logging Co., Inc., passed away on December 16, 2009.

Mary Lou's greatest joy in life came from her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. For many years, she was employed, as a caregiver, for many people in the Boonville area. In addition, she was a longtime volunteer at Matthews Place Ministries, Boonville, an excellent cook and was famous for her donuts and other baked creations. She also enjoyed playing Pitch, attending dances at the Post House Café, teaching religious classes at Adirondack Central School and taking bus trips with her sister-in-law, Sally Croniser.

The center of Mary Lou and Frank's lives together was their Catholic faith. It is accurately said that they truly loved their family, extended family and always endeavored to lend a hand to anyone who was in need. Mary Lou was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church, Constableville.

She is survived by her children, Duane Croniser and his family; Kristina Croniser, Lauren and Jonathan Walters and Zachary and Annie Putnam, Barry and his wife, Jody Croniser, Boonville, and their children; Douglas, Sara and her husband, Brian Fetterly Megan Croniser and Bryan McKenna, Mathew Croniser, a daughter, Brenda Croniser, Port Leyden, a son, Mark and his wife, Wendi Croniser, Boonville and their family; Jacob, Nathan and Nevan, a daughter; Karen and her husband, Kenneth Knoblauch, Constableville and their family; Brittany and her husband, Bradley Ebersol, and Bradley and Cassie, son David and his wife Linette Croniser, Boonville and their family, Parker Kohl, Rylee and John Croniser and Mike and his wife, Lissa Garlock, Karley Garlock and her fiancé Jeremi Burke. She was predeceased by a son. Patrick Croniser, on January 31, 1982. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Sally Croniser, Boonville; sister-in-law and her husband, John and Connie McConnell, Ava; and her special feline friend and companion, "Pumpkin."

Mary Lou's family wishes to extend a note of sincere appreciation to the First Floor Staff at Lewis County Extended Care Facility for all of the loving care which they extended to Mary Lou during her time at the facility.
