Mary Elaine Crosby, age 94, of Grayling, formerly of Midland, died on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Grayling, Michigan, in the presence and comfort of her family.
Mary was born September 4, 1930, in Midland, Michigan, the daughter of Leo and Veda (Spencer) Haley. She was born and raised in Midland, Michigan, graduating from Midland High School in 1948.
On September 16th, 1949, Mary married Dexter E. Crosby. They shared 58 years of marriage until the time of his death in 2007. In retirement they spent their summers on Round Lake. During their summers there, all of the grandkids spent special times with them. They enjoyed attending grandchildren events, baseball, soccer, football, and concerts. Mary and Dexter were actively involved with their church, St. Paul's Lutheran in Sanford.
Mary retired from Northwood University in 1987, where she was the secretary of the Records and Development Office. Mary loved sewing throughout her life. She made clothing, quilts and crafts. The grandkids looked forward to flannel pajamas every Christmas. For many years, she and Dexter made wood and fabric crafts together. Mary was an avid reader. If not sewing you could find her with her nose in a book. Mary also enjoyed baking and the family has many favorite recipes from her. Mary was a Detroit Tiger fan through and through. Her grandson, Devin, took her to a Tiger's game in 2014. She loved every minute. Knitting was another enjoyed past time. Sadly her favorite hobbies were taken from her as she developed Macular Degeneration which limited her sight in the last several years. In April of 2023, Mary moved to Northern Pines Assisted Living in Grayling.
Mary will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her son, Dexter (Marla) Crosby of Midland, Michigan, and her daughter, Pamela (Richard) Alexander of Grayling, Michigan; grandchildren: Devin Crosby of Midland, Michigan, Nicole (Tyler) King of Midland, Michigan and Drew (Sarah) Crosby of National City, Michigan, Kyle (Kimberly) Alexander of Gaylord, Michigan, Peter Alexander and Michelle Alexander of Grayling, Michigan; great grandchildren: Jayna, Jackson, Deacon, Bryson, Aubrey and Easton; brother in law, Jack (Karen) Crosby.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Dexter E Crosby; her parents; siblings and many friends and relatives.
Mary's family has chosen to remember her privately at this time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
