Mary Elizabeth ("Mary Beth") Crynes, a resident of Christopher Street, NYC and Quogue, NY, entered into eternal life on Thursday. October 16, 2025.
Born in Scranton, PA to the late Joseph P. and Anne Marie Lawlor Crynes, Mary Beth received her primary education at Cathedral Chapel School, Scranton, PA; she graduated from Marywood Seminary, Scranton; and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY.
Following graduation, she accepted a position as a Research Assistant with Scripps Howard Newspapers. This began a long and successful career in the industry. She then worked for A.C. Nielsen Ratings, which led to her accepting a position in the advertising department of NBC-TV at Rockefeller Center, NYC. While there she advanced to the position of Director of Sales Planning and Pricing with many highly influential clients.
Having spent close to 20 years at NBC, Mary Beth was responsible for prime-time TV advertising. In addition to supporting her clients from her office at Rockefeller Center, Mary Beth traveled widely and supported the Olympic Games sponsored by NBC in Atlanta, Seoul, Barcelona and Sydney.
Following a successful career in advertising, she devoted her life to volunteer services and ancillary assistance at the former St Vincent's Midtown Hospital on 52 nd Street where she found great satisfaction in offering her time and talent to the needs of the hospital.
Mary Beth was a true New Yorker living in Greenwich Village for close to 55 years and would complete the NY Times Crossword puzzle each day. Mary Beth and her sister, Joanne, enjoyed many opportunities for travel and adventure through the years. Their time together at their Beach House in Quogue provided ample and truly satisfying experiences and stories. They created many happy and long-lasting memories.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as an infant sister, Anne Marie.
Mary Beth is survived by three siblings, a brother, J. Peter Crynes of West Pittston, PA; a sister, Joanne M. with whom she has lived in New York City her entire adult life; and a brother and sister-in-law, Brian F. and Virginia Lance Crynes, residents of Seattle WA. She is also survived by three nephews and one niece. They are her nephew, Casey C. Crynes of San Francisco and his son, Sequoia; her niece and godchild, Meredith C. Cahill and her daughter, Clare, of Portland, OR; as well as her nephews, Gavin L. Crynes (Molly) and their two sons, Wyatt and Rory of Sausalito. CA; and Christian L. Crynes (Lili) of San Francisco, CA. Though separated by many miles, Mary Beth maintained an active and endearing relationship with all of them.
