Mary Cunning, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025. Describing Mary's life in mere words is no easy task-she was a woman of great depth, love, and strength. Her presence lit up the lives of those around her, and her legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of everyone she touched. We were blessed beyond measure to have known her, and she gave so much of herself to the people and causes she loved.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1937, Mary devoted her life to education. Her passion for learning and helping children was evident in everything she did, culminating in a fulfilling career as a principal at Queen of Heaven School. She inspired students, supported teachers, and led with wisdom and compassion.
Mary was the devoted mother of her son, Michael Brousseau of Albuquerque, NM, and her daughter, Margueritte Brousseau of Colorado Springs, CO. She found great joy in her role as grandmother to six cherished grandchildren. The eldest of four siblings, she shared a lifelong closeness with her sisters, Nancy Grady of Prudence Island, RI, and Fran Dotoli of Chepachet, RI, and she held loving memories of her late brother, Joe.
Mary lived a life grounded in deep faith, love, and service. Her unwavering devotion to the Lord was a guiding force in her life. She gave freely of her time and energy to help others and was known for her follow-through, kindness, and integrity.
In addition to her work and family, Mary embraced life with curiosity and passion. She was a voracious reader, a skilled knitter, and, in her younger years, enjoyed skiing. A world traveler, she explored many corners of the globe with a spirit of adventure and appreciation for culture and history.
Mary's legacy of love, learning, and generosity will be carried forward by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Goodbye, Mary. We love you always. You will be deeply missed by so many.
