Mary Ellen Currence Lauer, 64, a resident of Huttonsville, passed from this life Monday, 15 December 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Mary was born Sunday, 30 April 1961, in Elkins, A daughter of the late Esaw Currence and Martha Patricia Currence.
Left to cherish Mary's memory are three children, Brock Currence of Mill Creek, Mattie Cutright of Huttonsville, Sarah Currence of Valley Head, Husband Mark Lauer of Beulah North Dakota, five grandchildren, Kendal, Brody, Nathaniel, Deavion, Isabella, and siblings, twin sister Elizabeth "Liz" Russ, Angela "Pearl" Brown and companion Dave Atkinson, and Patricia Currence, all of Mill Creek.
Preceding Mary in death besides her parents was one brother, William "Will" Currence, one aunt, Janet Hosaflook, stepson Michael "Biggie" Roth.
Other loved ones of Mary left to cherish her memory are multiple nieces and nephews, Danielle Mittelsteadt, Steven Z. Hinchman, Michelle Roth Hedrick and her bonus grand babies Bryar, Ananda, Kileigh, Jayden, Elijah, Foxx, Navalyn, Elijah #2, Journey, Jackson, Emma, Gabby, Haven and Kenna.
Mary was a vibrant and loving spirit, known for her kind soul and beautiful smile. She had a passion for movies, especially Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and thrilling murder mysteries. Mary loved cooking various dishes for her loved ones, like cobblers and her famous meatloaf. Mary enjoyed laughing and making jokes. Even during the darkest times of her battle with cancer she would find ways to make everyone laugh.
Mary cherished the time spent with friends and family, whether it was enjoying her favorite music or reminiscing about the good ol' days. Her warmth made anyone feel instantly welcomed and loved, regardless of how long they had known her. As a devoted mother, she would go to any lengths to support her children, but being a Nana brought her the greatest joy of all.
Throughout her life, Mary faced numerous challenges that shaped her into a resilient, hardworking woman. She dedicated herself to ensuring her children would not endure the same hardships she encountered. Over the years, Mary took on various jobs, most recently serving as a Laborer at Industrial Lube in Beulah, North Dakota. After some health issues, she returned to
Mill Creek, WV, where she received the difficult diagnosis of Stage 4 ovarian cancer. In her final days, Mary fought bravely, surrounded by her loved ones, until she could no longer continue her battle. Mary will be forever loved and missed immensely by all that knew her.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Monday, December 22, 2025, from 11 am until 1 pm, the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.
