Mary Devita Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Darby Funeral Home - Canton on Oct. 22, 2025.
In Loving Memory of Mary Carol Devita
June 17, 1947 – October 22, 2025
Mary Carol Devita, 78, of Marietta, Georgia, passed peacefully from this life on October 22, 2025.
Born on June 17, 1947, to Anna Eudora Queen and William Isaac Brown, Mary grew up in Marietta with a heart as big as the Georgia sky. From a young age, she shared a special bond with her father, joining him on countless hunting and fishing trips - adventures that shaped her love for the outdoors and her fearless spirit.
Mary had a tender soul and a fierce compassion for people. She devoted much of her life to mentoring young single mothers and helping fathers find their way - often the ones the world had given up on. She believed deeply in second chances and the power of grace.
A lover of words and wisdom, Mary found joy in poetry - especially the poems written by her mother, which she cherished throughout her life. Her home was always filled with books, laughter, and the comforting presence of her beloved Chihuahuas, Abby, Cashew, and Peanut, along with her cat, Buttercup.
Mary's kindness, humor, and unshakable faith touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered as a woman who loved deeply, forgave freely, and gave selflessly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and William; her son, Robert "Bobby" Harold Allen; and her daughter, Geraldine Allen. She is survived by her son, William "Billy" Lester Allen of Canton, Georgia, and her sister, Jo Ann Brown Robinson of Hickory Flat, Georgia, along with many family members and friends who will carry her memory forward with gratitude and love. Mary is also survived by her close personal friend of 30 years, Kathy Cox, who lovingly cared for her. She is additionally survived by Kathy's daughter, Jane Goldsmith, whose help and kindness were a great comfort to Mary in her later years.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
"She walked gently on this earth, but her love left footprints that will never fade."
