Mary McCandless Dugger of Cumby, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025 at the age of 92.
She was born on November 25, 1932 to John Linwood McCandless and Jessie Juanita (Mounger) McCandless in Farmersville, Texas. On September 12, 1953, Mary married the love of her life, Malcolm Eugene Dugger, in McKinney, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished moments until his passing in July 2012.
Mary worked for many years as a bookkeeper in the banking industry, where she was admired for her accuracy, integrity, and strong work ethic. She was also known as the family's bookkeeper, always dependable and organized in every detail. She was a woman of Baptist faith and she found comfort in her beliefs.
Mary's greatest joy came from her family, whom she always placed first. She was a humble, loving woman with a wonderful sense of humor who found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed gardening and had an extensive knowledge of flowers. She loved the outdoors, especially watching hummingbirds in her yard. She was also a gifted cook who brought family together around the table with meals made from the heart.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother, caring sister, and a faithful friend. Her legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and loved her.
Mary is survived by her son, Mark Dugger and wife, Debbie of Cumby, Texas; grandchildren, Alicia Cook, James Moore, Angela Moore, Russell and Eva Singleton, Justin Dugger, Misty and Michael Lowrance, Megan Spivey, and Jonathan and Shaiha Shuford ; many dear great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Dugger; daughters, Dwana Cook and Laura Moore; grandchild, Kristan Dugger; great-grandchild, Kaydence Weakley; parents, John and Jessie McCandless; and brother, Bill E. McCandless.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
