Mary Durham Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martin & Hightower Funeral Home - Carrollton on Mar. 6, 2026.
Mary Lou Durham, age 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026.

Born on October 27, 1939, in Long Beach, California, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Eligha Clinton Lovell and Nora Loriane Wallace Lovell. She lived a life defined by devotion to her family, quiet kindness, and a steady faith that guided her through every season.

Mary Lou shared nearly seven decades of marriage with the love of her life, Dwight. For 69 years, they built a life together rooted in commitment, laughter, and enduring companionship. Their journey together was one of partnership and simple joys, especially in retirement when they set out to explore the country in their fifth wheel, making memories along the open road.

A hardworking and dependable woman, Mary Lou spent more than 20 years working in the Fleet Department at Southwire. She took pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way. After retiring, she found joy in caring for others, touching the lives of several local families by lovingly babysitting their young children. To many of them, she became more than a caregiver; she became a cherished part of their lives.

Mary Lou also had a creative spirit. She loved crocheting beautiful antebellum costumes for dolls, carefully crafting them for special occasions and holidays. Her handmade creations reflected the patience, attention to detail, and love she poured into everything she did.

Above all else, Mary Lou treasured her family. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend brought her the greatest happiness. Her warmth and steady presence created a home filled with love, and the relationships she nurtured throughout her life meant the world to her.

She was a faithful member of Cross Plains Christian Church, where her quiet faith and gentle spirit reflected the values she carried throughout her life.

In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in meeting Jesus by her beloved son, Michael, who passed away in January 2026.

She leaves behind many who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts, including her loving husband of 69 years, Dwight; her son, Terrell, and his wife, Sandy; her daughter, Tammy; and her sister, Jackie Hodges. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews who were blessed by her love.

A funeral service honoring and celebrating Mary Lou's life will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Beckham officiating. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens with Kaden Beckham, Jamie Godbee, Will Godbee, Logan McNeil, Gregg Popham, Brett Thompson, and Jonathan Thompson serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 PM until the hour of service.
