Mary Dusterhoft Obituary

It was time to go . . . Mary Dusterhoft, fourth daughter of Julius A Dusterhoft II and Gladys H. Riggs Dusterhoft, died on April 5, 2024. Mary was born on August 5, 1941, in Iowa City, IA. She grew up in Lone Tree but spent the majority of her life in Iowa City. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 26th at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City, Father Troy Richmond presiding. A light luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Friends of the Iowa City Senior Center. Mary was preceded by her parents; two older sisters: Darlene Rowley and Jacqueline Knotts; nephew Scott Knotts; and niece Huy Suk Knotts. Mary is survived by her sister Blanche "Liz" Schwaigert and brother Julius A. (Gina) Dusterhoft III; and many nieces and nephews. Mary worked for First National Bank and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics but learnt many life lessons working as a waitress. Mary spent many hours reading and enjoyed all kinds of needlework. Her pets were always important to her. She taught Taoist Tai Chi at the Senior Center, a great place to meet and make friends. She never thought she would live this long. She always thought she had "shortjevity." She hopes she gave more than she took. She will be remembered fondly and couldn't resist a plug for the Senior Center.
