Mary Jane E. Thompson, 87, of Cumru Township, formerly of Newtown Square, PA, Coatesville, PA and Freeport, LI, NY, passed away December 5, 2024, at the Heritage of Green Hills in their Memory Care unit.
Born in Nassau County, Long Island, NY, she was a daughter of the late Howard S. and Marcella E. (Lee) Thompson.
MaryJane was an accessories buyer for Gimbels and A&S Department Store, from she retired. She was a member of the Church of St. Benedict, Brecknock Township. Mary Jane attended St, Agnes Academic School in Rockville Center, NY and graduated from the College at New Rochelle in NY with her BA. She was an avid dog lover, most especially Welsh terriers and was a long-standing member of the Welsh Terrier Club. She owned many Welsh terriers who served as her companions throughout her life. She loved horses and attended and worked at the Devon Horse Show for many years.
While living in Coatesville, she enjoyed singing in her church choir. Mary Jane was a world traveler, going on an African Safari, Russia, Thailand and traveled extensively in Europe and the United States. Her favorite place to visit was Paris, which she went many times. She was also an avid history buff who audited courses at the local community college (later in life), to increase her knowledge. Mary Jane loved to attend parties and spend time with her friends.
She is survived by her niece Carolyn Schick, Mt. Sinai, NY, nephews – Matthew, Thomas and Robert Schick as well as her cousin Robert E. Lee of Syosset, NY and cousin Christine Lee of Sayville, NY.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM from the Church of St. Benedict, 2020 Chestnut Hill Road, Mohnton, PA 19540. The Reverend Stan Moczydlowski celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, 235 Matsonford Road, West Conshohocken. Visitation from 10:30-11:00 AM at the church.
